  2. About TurboOptimizer™ Trial Version

TurboOptimizer is a sophisticated disk optimizer that will improve the disk access performance of your Macintosh by re-organizing the files on your drive.  It is compatible with all types of drives and models of the Macintosh from the 512K to the Mac II.  Since this is a trial version of our software, it will only operate for a limited period of time.  For a retail version, see your local dealer or contact PLI directly at (800) 288-8754.

  11. To install TurboOptimizer on your drive, follow these simple instructions:

  13. 1)  TurboOptimizer is an application that you can run as often as you like to improve the performance of your drive.  To start it up, simply double click on its icon.  The program can be run from either the floppy disk or the drive you wish to optimize.

  15. 2)  TurboMonitor is a CDEV (Control Device) which will keep track of how often you use the files on your drive.  To install TurboMonitor, simply drag it into the System Folder of the drive you wish to monitor and restart your Macintosh.  This will activate TurboMonitor automatically.  You can then select the TurboMonitor icon in the Control Panel to set the desired parameters.

  23. •  Three options are available on the main screen.  Optimize will de-fragment your drive.  Pause allows you to temporarily stop the optimize process, and Info gives you information on which files need optimizing and which files have already been moved.  The bar in the middle gives a listing of all the recognized volumes which can be optimized; and the bar at the bottom indicates how many files remain to be optimized.

  25. The options menu offers a variety of ways to improve your drive's performance.

  27. •  Optimize - You can optimize all fragmented files and/or those files you use most often.

  29. •  Verify volume - You can verify the integrity of the entire volume using the fast method or the more complete longer method.

  31. •  Erase Free Space - This erases all free space on the drive in two ways:  A quick erase or the more complete "Secure" option.

  33. •  Exclude Files - You can exclude any files you do not wish to optimize.  For example, you would exclude copy-protected files that must not be moved in order to work correctly.

  35. •  Build History File & Info - This allows you to build a history file showing how often you use your applications and files.

  39. •  Open up the Control Panel and select TurboMonitor.  You can vary the amount of idle time to allow prior to writing file history information to the drive.  When used in conjunction with TurboOptimizer, it will align those files that you use most frequently closer to the beginning of the disk, so that the heads will not have to move as much to access information.  This results in faster access times and longer drive life.  A picture will show where your data is placed on the platter.
